All in one day. 🚀
I work from home. 🏡
I am an over-achiever 🧨 definitely type A…
I don’t need to work in a cubicle ⏰ clocking in and out with a manager hovering over my back to prove my value and deliver results. 🎈
It’s definitely something I’ve worked hard all my life to get to, after slogging down the 405 bumper to bumper freeway, sitting in cubicles; Reporting to really bad bosses who just push my buttons and don’t know the actual work that needs to get done, but use their position of authority to compensate their own insecurities. Then slog it back on the freeway and get home to my young children who just don’t know who I am because I’m never there. :( That’s not a life.
F* that 💩
Statistics tell that you do not lose productivity with remote working. In fact it increases. ⬆️
According to several studies, some people are more productive working from home than in an office setting:
ConnectSolutions
A survey found that 77% of people who work remotely at least a few times a month are more productive, with 30% doing more work in less time and 24% doing more work in the same amount of time.
Upwork
A study found that 46% of white-collar workers surveyed said they were more productive at home, compared to 16% who said they were more productive in the office.
Owl Labs
A 2023 study found that 91% of workers reported being as productive, or more productive, in their own working style.
However ⬇️
➡️ this doesn’t mean we don’t forget about people and connection.
Just because you work from home doesn’t mean you become an isolated shy 🦉 owl.
Noooooooo. It still means working with others! But we are in 2024 people! Technology is amazing! We’re not in the 90s with pagers and home phones with dial up Internet. 🤪
We can actually see each other on Zoom, Google meet, FaceTime ohh and we can gather together as needed when needed.
🚙 Yessssss, we can still leave the house and go to meetings and connect real time. This is not 2020/2021… (I really do want to just write-off those 2 years, don’t you??!!
But I digress… All I’m saying is when I have to go heads down, focus and kick butt, exceeding expectations - that means really doing that: no distractions, no managers hovering throwing one more task my way on top of the hundred others just because he or she walks by. No!
🧘♀️🧘♀️🧘♀️🧘♀️ Truly focus and finish and succeed! 🙌🏆🥇
Half the engineers I’ve worked with in the office have headphones on, in their cubicles or shared work desks. Why???? Because they don’t want to be disturbed.
Duh! 🙄
Magic happens when we are allowed to focus and be productive the way we want to be productive. And if that means working from home - let them!
Or if you want to be surrounded by others, work in the office!
But …… THAT can also be a crutch for non-achievement. 💀
Just showing up to work doesn’t mean you’re being successful! All that kitchen gossip can be distracting. You waste so much time getting to work in peak hour traffic, getting to your 8-a-day meetings, figuring out A/V in the conference room, getting distractions from unmeaningful conversations in the hallway about Jim’s cat that had a fireball…..
My God, I could have finished that proposal 3 hours ago if I just stayed home. 🏠
Feel me?
I know you do.
And managers, there are better ways to measure your workers’ performance than watch them clock in and out and hover over their shoulders. To effectively measure remote workers' performance, managers should shift to more dynamic, results-oriented strategies. Focus on setting clear goals and key performance indicators (KPIs) that align with the company's objectives. Regular check-ins and one-on-one meetings can provide valuable insights into progress and challenges. Utilize project management tools to track deliverables and deadlines. Encourage open communication and foster a culture of accountability and trust. By prioritizing outcomes over hours logged, managers can better assess productivity and support their team's career growth in a remote environment.
