Don't get caught in the idea vortex
What do Oprah Winfrey, Jeff Bezos, James Dyson, Sheryl Sandberg and Ariana Huffington have in common?
I woke up this morning, energized, invigorated and ready to take on anything. And that's the key. It was like, “I am on fire, I'm ready to do something! Yeah!”. The trouble with being a creative entrepreneur and passion leader is figuring out which idea to pick… because you're so creative.... in ideas!
Jeff Bezos is the founder and CEO of Amazon, one of the most successful companies in the world. But Bezos's journey to success was not easy. He faced many obstacles along the way, including rejection from investors and criticism from naysayers. In 1994, Bezos had the idea to create an online bookstore. He quit his job as a hedge fund manager and invested his life savings into his new venture. At the time, many people thought that the idea of an online bookstore was crazy. They said that people would never buy books online. But Bezos was persistent. He believed in his idea, and he was willing to work hard to make it a reality. He started Amazon in his garage, and he worked long hours to build the company to what it is today.
First, you gotta pick one idea. It's easy to get caught up in the idea vortex and never actually take action. But if you want to make your dreams a reality, you need to choose one idea (first) and focus on it.
James Dyson is a British inventor and entrepreneur who is best known for inventing the Dyson vacuum cleaner. He is also the founder of the Dyson company, which is one of the world's leading manufacturers of vacuum cleaners and other household appliances.
Dyson is a highly creative individual with a lot of great ideas. However, he has also admitted to being a bit of a "tinkerer" and to sometimes getting stuck in the "idea vortex." This is a term that is used to describe the state of being constantly bombarded with new ideas and not being able to focus on any one of them.
Dyson has said that he has often found himself coming up with new ideas for products, but then not being able to take any of them to market because he was too busy coming up with new ideas. This can be a problem for entrepreneurs, because it can lead to them never actually bringing any of their ideas to fruition.
I know that starting a new venture is not easy. It takes hard work, dedication, and perseverance. If you're willing to put in the work, you can achieve your dreams and make a real difference in the world.
As you know, I’m big on following your passion. If you follow what you love, and apply a bit of grit, anything is possible and will be incredibly rewarding.
You're probably constantly coming up with new ideas all the time. It can be hard to decide which one to pursue, especially when there are so many possibilities.
Here are a few things to consider when choosing an idea:
Your passion. What are you passionate about? If you're not passionate about your idea, it will be difficult to stick with it through the tough times.
The market. Is there a market for your idea? Do people want or need what you're offering?
The competition. How much competition is there? If there's too much competition, it will be difficult to succeed.
Your skills and resources. Do you have the skills and resources to make your idea a reality? If not, you'll need to find a way to acquire them.
Once you've considered these factors, you'll be able to narrow down your options and choose an idea that's right for you.
Can you pick one? At least,… for now? (My motto is you can actualize many things, … but not all at the same time).
Then, time to flesh it out.
What is your idea? Who is it for? How will it work? The more you think about your idea, the more real it will become.
There are a few different ways to flesh out your ideas. One way is to simply write them down. This will help you to clarify your thoughts and to see your idea in a more concrete way.
Another way to flesh out your ideas is to talk to people about them. This could be friends, family, colleagues, or even strangers. Talking to other people about your ideas can help you to get feedback and to see your idea from a different perspective.
Finally, you can also flesh out your ideas by doing research.
This could involve reading books, articles, or websites about your topic. It could also involve conducting interviews with people who are knowledgeable about your topic.
Dyson eventually learned to overcome his problem of being stuck in the idea vortex by developing a system for managing his ideas. He would start by writing down all of his ideas, no matter how crazy they seemed. Then, he would go through the list and start to prioritize them. He would focus on the ideas that he was most passionate about and that he thought had the most potential.
Learn as much as you can about your industry and your target market.
This will help you to validate your idea and to develop a sound business plan.
Next, the big step:
Build a team.
No one can go hard on their own. You need to squad up with talented people who get your vision. Your team is the foundation of your success. They are the people who will help you bring your idea to life. They are the people who will share your passion and who will be there to support you through the tough times.
So how do you build a great team?
Start by finding people who are passionate about your idea. This is essential. If your team members are not passionate about your idea, they will not be motivated to work hard.
Look for people who have the skills and experience you need. You need a team that has the skills and experience to bring your idea to life.
Find people who are a good fit for your culture. Your team should be a group of people who get along and who work well together.
Once you have found your team, it's important to cultivate a positive and supportive environment. Your team should be a place where people feel comfortable taking risks and where they feel supported.
Building a great team takes time and effort. But it's worth it. A great team is the heartbeat to your success.
Take action.
Don't wait for the perfect moment. Don't procrastinate. Just start sht*. This doesn't mean that you have to have everything figured out before you start. But it does mean that you need to be willing to take some risks and to put yourself out there.
The sooner you start taking action, the sooner you'll be able to see if your idea is viable. And the sooner you start taking action, the sooner you'll be able to learn from your mistakes and make adjustments.
So don't wait for the perfect moment. Just start taking steps today. Start small. Don't try to do everything at once. Just start with one small step. Be willing to fail. Failure is a part of the entrepreneurial journey. Don't be afraid to fail. Learn from your mistakes and keep moving forward.
Taking action is the most important thing you can do if you want to be a successful entrepreneur. So don't wait any longer. Just start taking steps today.
Set goals. What do you want to achieve with your idea? What are your short-term and long-term goals?
Create a plan. How are you going to achieve your goals? What steps do you need to take?
Be organized. Keep track of your progress and make sure you're on track.
Be persistent.
Don't give up on your idea, even if it takes a long time to make it happen. There will be setbacks along the way. But if you're persistent, you'll eventually reach your goals. The best way to take action is to start small. Don't try to do everything at once. Just focus on one small step that you can take towards making your idea a reality.
Be flexible. Be willing to change your idea as you learn more about it.
Be patient. It takes time to turn an idea into a reality. Dyson also learned to be patient. He knew that it would take time to develop and bring a new product to market. He was willing to put in the hard work and to persevere through the setbacks.
Jeff Bezos and Amazon faced many challenges in its early days. The company lost money for several years, and Bezos was forced to lay off many employees. But Bezos never gave up. He continued to believe in his vision, and he eventually turned Amazon into a success. Today, Amazon is one of the most valuable companies in the world and continues to expand its innovation of ideas into other areas, including cloud computing, streaming media, and artificial intelligence. Whether you support Bezos’ approach, his story is an inspiration to entrepreneurs everywhere. It shows that if you have a great idea and you are willing to work hard, you can achieve anything.
